Speak Out on Food Safety Modernization Act by November 15
The newly proposed Food Safety Modernization Act poses an enormous threat to sustainable agriculture. Speak up for safe food regulations that are not tailored for industrial food production, but include the preservation and progress of sustainable food. The FDA is seeking comments from the public. Sign a Petition to Suport GMO Labeling in NY
Two bills currently before the New York State Legislature would require labeling of GMO foods (foods produced from genetically modified organisms). The right to know where the food we are buying comes from is an issue that should concern us all.
On the first round, the bills (#S3835 and #A3525) were defeated in committee. But effort to pass them are ongoing. Each provides for the labeling of food or food products that contain a genetically modified material or that are produced with a genetically modified material. New York has allied with Right to Know GMO, a coalition of 37 states with the common goal of winning mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods in the U.S.
